The best tracking & attribution tools in 2026
Server-side tracking, multi-channel attribution, conversion reconciliation: the tools giving ecommerce brands their real data back, ranked by auction.
How this leaderboard works
Every position is an auction: tracking tools bid real money, starting at €5, and the highest bid takes first place. No jury, no sponsored reviews — the leaderboard moves the second someone bids more. Clicks sent to each site are counted and public. The full rules.
How to choose your tracking tool
Since iOS 14 and the slow death of third-party cookies, native pixels lose a share of conversions and every ad platform generously attributes sales to itself. A good server-side tracking tool reconciles: it captures orders server-side, sends them back enriched to the platforms (Meta CAPI, Google Enhanced Conversions) and gives you a deduplicated view of what each channel really brings.
The decisive criterion is match quality: what percentage of orders does the tool tie back to a session and a channel? Ask for the coverage rate observed on comparable stores, how subscriptions and phone orders are handled, and whether the attribution model is explainable — a black box that "corrects" your numbers without saying how is no better than the platforms' dashboards.
What to compare
Compare: installation (one-click Shopify app vs server-side gTM to configure), the claimed and verifiable match rate, the send-back to platforms (CAPI, Enhanced Conversions), the attribution models offered and their transparency, and pricing — often indexed on order volume. Check GDPR compliance: server-side doesn't exempt you from consent.
Frequently asked questions
Is server-side tracking essential?
As soon as paid ads matter in your acquisition, yes: browser pixels alone lose part of the conversions (adblockers, iOS, cookies), and your campaigns then optimise on incomplete data. Server-side recovers part of that signal and feeds the platforms' algorithms better.
Attribution: which model should I trust?
No model is "true" — each is a convention. What matters is consistency: one deduplicated model across all channels, compared against global MER. Each platform claims the same sale; a third-party tool that deduplicates gets you closer to reality.
How much does an ecom tracking tool cost?
Most charge by monthly order tier, from a few dozen to a few hundred euros a month. Weigh that cost against the ad budget it steers: spending 5% better on a €30,000/month budget pays the tool back several times over.
